This two-day program is designed to provide the knowledge and skills necessary to efficiently evaluate and effectively manage seriously ill infants and children. At the end of this course students will be able to perform effective airway management skill including use of oxygen delivery, suctioning, OPA, NPA, bag-valve mask ventilation, endotracheal intubation (according to scope of practice). Use appropriate electrical therapy, including defibrillation and synchronized cardioversion. Demonstrate proper technique for intraosseous IO access. Perform as a team leader or team member in simulated cases.
Pre-requisites:Current BCLS Provider's card must be presented at registration along with the test scores from the three self-assessment tests on the Student CD. Participants must also have a basic EKG class to recognize arrhythmias. Pre-work also includes reading the 2006 AHA PALS Manual prior to class. Textbooks can be obtained from The Center for Learning and Development (58 Hackett).
